Historic win for Foyle!!
By Doc.

Auchenfoyle created their own little piece of history when they secured their first points, and first win as a 2nd Division club with a fantastic, well deserved away win at Kilbirnie.

This was a tremendous team performance during which all 14 players used contributed to a victory which finally justified the talent they now have within their squad this eason.

Foyle dlidnt actually start the game too well and allowed themselves, once again, to become involved in arguments between each other and with the opposition.  The backline, which was changed once again, took its time to gel but finally managed to get their act together, but not before their hosts took the lead after a long ball sliced open the heart of the defence and allowed the striker to fire Kilbirnie ahead.

Foyle fought hard and managed to gain a real grip on the game and equalised through a sublime piece of skill from David Ferrie.  A ball was played forward from the midfield to Daniel Clark who flicked it out to the right to his strike partner Ferrie who took the ball, drove it at the Kilbirine defence who then left 3 defenders in his wake before blasting it in from a tight angle off the underside of the bar.  Surely a goal of the season contender already!!!

Foyle went into the half time break with a draw but were still unhappy with aspects of their play, particularly getting involved with incidents off the ball which was affecting their play.  A team discussion and a few choice words payed dividends as Foyle came out in the 2nd half like a team possessed and totally outplayed their more experienced 2nd division opponents.

Midway through the 1st half Foyle finally took the lead when Daniel Clark showed tremendous tenacity to nick the ball of the Kibirnie centre half, leave him and the rest of the defence for dead, take it round the keeper and score from what looked like an impossibe angle.  You could now see the impact that goal had on the team and Foyle were now in complete control and more or less finished the match when a neat build up which resulted in manager Stu Thomson driving through towards goal and releasing David Strachan on the left.  He then drove into the penalty box and blasted the ball into the net for a great composed finish from a player who played extremely well in his new position down the left.

Foyle then completed their victory with a fourth goal which was scored by big Stu who got on to the end of a great ball in from the left from Daniel Clark to place the ball into the net to round of a great result.

There was plenty of positives to take from this game for Auchenfoyle.  Despite a shaky period of getting used to playing with each other at the start, the defence really came onto a game, especially in the 2nd half when it is difficult to remember Kilbirine even getting a shot at goal.  The midfield worked extremely hard in protecting the defence and supporting the strikers whilst maintaing their dominance in the middle of the park.  The striking partnership of Clark and Ferrie gets better with every game now.  Clark just does what he know best by just terrorising every defence he plays against and David Ferrie is turning out to be a tremendous player with fantastic ability, pace and strength and is getting fitter with every game he plays.  Special mention to Bud who once again showed just how important he is to the team with his unselfish play and 2nd to none workrate.

Thanks again to the subs for being patient and playing their part when they came on.  Cheers to Paul in goals for helping out again and playing very well despite having to pop his knee into place a few times during the game.

We wont get carried away with this result as we will have a hell of a fight to finish in a good position this year but we can all be proud of ourselves after this performance.  Well done lads.

Next up..our first home game of the season against WE Vineyard.

Mon eh Foyle!!!
