16/11/2004 - Ian Irvine is the Daddy

Congratulations to Ian & Sarah on the arrival of a 6lb 1oz baby boy on the evening of Sunday 14 November (all the best kids are born on a Sunday). Mother and child both doing well Ian can't wait to get back to the football ....

14/11/2004 - Briza pulls a fast one!
Brian Gray pulled the old trick of making a bad job of washing the strips so that he doesn't have to wash them again. It was a typical blokes effort as he was banished to the laundrette by the girlfriend and left to get on with it but unfortunately after the first wash at the wrong temperature (the rumour there was no detergent will be pursued) the strips were still in a soiled state. They went in for a second time and this time it worked helped by "the wuman in the place" however Briza is obviously unaware that the strips should be dried as well. The Foyle players found this to their cost on one of the coldest mornings of the season when the team arrived for the game against Irvine to find the strips in a soggy condition, this no doubt contributed to the teams below par performance half of which will be out next week with flu. Therefore Briza you will have to do better next time and there will be a next time as Brian let slip that he knows "the wuman in the place" and he got them done for nothing (Davie, Joe and John take note) therefore the least we can do is thank Betty's laundrette who were the proud sponsors of this weeks game and you can look forward to seeing Briza and the rest of the PG boys again soon.

07/11/2004 - Good News

1. News about God...

  • that He’s our creator (Acts 17:24) - and so we owe our very existence to him
  • that He’s all-knowing; all-powerful
  • and, of course, we find ourselves totally in his hands
  • a gracious & loving being who will by no means leave the guilty unpunished (Exodus 34:6,7)
  • having famously revealed His perfect standards for us in the 10 commandments (Exodus 20)

2. News about sin...

  • that it’s more than mere shortcomings as judged by our own, or society’s, best standards
  • and more than merely something we have a conscience about
  • rather, true conviction of sin is an awareness:
    • of our specific sins (Ps.51:1-4)
    • of our inherent sinfulness (Ps.51:5,6)
    • of our wrong relationship with God (Ps.51:7-10)
  • in short, it is seeing ourselves as God sees us; totally corrupted; exposed to his wrath; and needing to be created anew

3. News about Jesus Christ...

Three crosses depicting the crucifixion at Calvary

  • as one now living
  • having once come from God into humanity to die for us
  • his crucifixion actually being his work of salvation as predicted in the Bible
  • that we are to 'believe in the Lord Jesus' (Acts 16:31 - to receive the blessings his death has secured)

4. News about repenting & believing...

  • Repenting - more than regret about our past
  • Believing - more than optimism for our future
  • Repenting - a far-reaching change of heart & mind leading to a true disciple spirit (Luke 9:23)
  • Believing - entrusting ourselves to, and resting fully on, the promises of God’s grace (John 3:16)

Have you responded?

  • By acknowledging:
    1. You have sinned (Rom.3:23)
    2. You can do nothing to make yourself acceptable to God (Eph.2:8,9)
    3. Jesus Christ, God’s Son, did what you couldn’t do - He paid the price of your forgiveness before a holy God by His death on the cross (1 Cor.15:3)
    4. Your readiness to repent & receive by faith Jesus Christ as your personal saviour (Acts 20:21)

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. (The Gospel by John 3:16 NIV)

06/11/2004 - Players spotted in nite club

It was revealed after Saturday's game that 4 Auchenfoyle players had been spotted in a down market Greenock nite spot on the eve of this match. This would explain the below par performance from the team as the players were spotted in the early hours of Saturday morning at the local 'Word Up' club. The Auchenfoyle manager was unavailable for comment however an inside source revealed that the players (believed to be Strachan, Muir, Hemphill and Gibson) would be dealt with internally by the club and that the players had been ordered to remain silent. Although the 4 players received knock backs we can exclusively reveal that two young ladies dressed in white stockings and red shoes are helping the club with their enquiries.

06/11/2004 - Thomson, Clark & Muir out for November

Stewart Thomson starts a minimum 3 match ban starting 30th October, Timmy Clark will be sidelined for 1 month with a pulled thigh muscle and Stephen Muir is on crutches following an ankle knock that looks to leave him out for a few weeks.

Thomson update: The League disciplinary committee met on 4 November and the player received a further 8 match ban.

The Auchenfoyle committee has now implemented a zero policy for the remainder of the season. No more dissent, bad language, complaining etc ....... NO MORE BOOKINGS! Players who cost the club disciplinary points will be substituted and banned for a minimum of 2 games. You have all been warned.

Players who have not already done so are reminded that you must attend Port Glasgow church any Sunday between now and the end of December.
